Theft? Vandalism? Both?
The local eyeglass store sent my precious Fuga frame to Midland Optical for re-lensing. After 5 weeks of waiting patiently -- after all, I am the patient -- I called the local store for an update. When they got back to me, they said that "the lab" had told them that the frame was damaged, but that they could repair it by soldering. My immediate reation was that it should be spot welded, but since it was just the nosepad support wire, not much strength was needed. But, as seen in the images below, the frame came back with bogus new nosepads, too "tall" (thick) to leave room for the width of my nose, with the nosepad support wire re-attached in a bogus position that prevented the R lens from aligning with the L lens! Not only that, but the nosepad support wire was re-attached back from the lens, closer to my face, so the lens did not align with my face any more, either.
Making matters worse, when the local glasses store took the misrepaired frame to a local frame repair shop, the local frame repair guy pointed out that the nosepad wire had been not been soldered (as Midland Optical had told the local eyeglass store they would be), but arc welded in its new, incorrect, position, and so there was nothing he could do to un-do the bogus repair!
Midland Optical's work was unacceptable to me and to the local eyeglass store.
Midland Optical asked for their bogus work be sent back to them. It came back from Midland Optical with 2 additional problems. (I suspect that Midland Optical was hoping that the irreplaceable frame they'd damaged would be lost in transit, so some other, more responsible, corporation's insurance carrier could pay for Midland Optical's screw-up.)
When the local eyeglass store told me that Midland Optical was not standing behind its work, I asked the local office manager if it would be OK if I called them (I'd picked up the word "Midland" by then, and that is all it took to find them and their web site). She said it would be OK, so I did.
The people at Midland Optical were very rude to me when I called 314-533-2020. Some hung up on me, though one kind soul there was able to look up the invoice number for me. One employee after another told me that they did not need to talk to me because I did not have an account with them, even though it was my property that Midland Optical had damaged.
So I searched for "Midland Optical owner" and was directed to here, where Midland Optical's web site says that Midland Optical is "patient focused". And I am the patient!
There I found contact information (extension 617) for MATT IOVALDI, "Owner and President of Midland Optical since 1989", as well as for KIM CLYNES, V.P. Sales & Marketing (Ext. 621), NEIL VOIGT, Director of Operations (Ext. 642), MARCOS MARTINS, V.P. Lab Operations (Ext. 633), and MELISSA SUNSHINE-PULLEN, V.P. Office Operations (Ext. 638).
They do not return phone calls, contrary to their outgoing voice mail announcements, thereby outing Midland Optical as a totally completely utterly irresponsible dishonest incompetent corporation.
YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!
